Psychedelic Experience Processing Group
The Psychedelic Club of Denver is delighted to offer an opportunity for individuals to come together in a safe and supportive environment to explore the profound and transformative aspects of psychedelic experiences. Guided by an experienced facilitator and grounded in a foundation of respect, openness, and confidentiality, this monthly event aims to create a space where participants can share, reflect upon, and integrate their psychedelic encounters.
During the event, participants can expect:
Sharing and Reflection: Through open and facilitated discussions, participants are encouraged to share their personal experiences with psychedelics. This could include insights gained, challenges faced, and the emotional and spiritual aspects of their journeys. Sharing in a group setting often allows for diverse perspectives and insights that can enrich one's own understanding.
Community Support: The event fosters a sense of community where participants can connect with like-minded individuals who share an interest in exploring consciousness. Building connections with others who've walked similar paths can be deeply affirming and validating.
Emotional Support: A facilitator skilled in holding space for emotional experiences is available to provide guidance and support, ensuring that all participants feel heard and understood.
In order to establish and maintain a safe space for all participants:
Please arrive by 7:30, ready to hold space for others in a safe and support setting. Ten minutes will be allotted to settle in and socialize. The door will be locked at 7:40, after which no new participants may join the group.
Respect the rules and boundaries provided by the facilitator.
Refrain from defining others' experiences, diagnosing others, and disrespecting others.
Remember, listening can be more powerful than speaking.

Fall Psychedelic Book Club — The Joyous Cosmology by Alan Watts (Pt. 1)
The Psychedelic Club of Denver is bringing back our book club, this time to discuss The Joyous Cosmology: Adventures in the Chemistry of Consciousness, written by the illustrious Alan Watts. Discussions are grounded in the focal text but often diverge into philosophical, spiritual, cultural, and any other subjects in the orbit of psychedelia.
The Joyous Cosmology is Alan Watts’s exploration of the insight that the consciousness-changing drugs LSD, mescaline, and psilocybin can facilitate when accompanied with sustained philosophical reflection by a person who is in search, not of kicks, but of understanding.” More than an artifact, it is both a riveting memoir of Watts’s personal experiments and a profound meditation on our perennial questions about the nature of existence and the existence of the sacred.

Alan Watts (1915-1973) was a British philosopher, writer, and speaker known for his profound contributions to Eastern philosophy and the popularization of Zen Buddhism in the West. With his captivating lectures and books, Watts bridged the gap between Eastern and Western thought, exploring themes of mindfulness, spirituality, and the interconnectedness of all things.
In addition to his philosophical work, Alan Watts also gained notoriety for his interest in psychedelics during the 1960s. He experimented with substances like LSD and psilocybin mushrooms, believing they offered unique insights into the nature of consciousness and human perception. His experiences with psychedelics informed his teachings and writings, contributing to his reputation as a countercultural icon and a thought leader in the exploration of altered states of consciousness.
This meetup is for the first half of the text, but all are welcome regardless of how much they’ve read.

The Possibilities and Pitfalls of Legalized Mushrooms for BIPOC in Colorado
Come learn about study findings from CU Denver's psilocybin study that showcases people of color and low-income individuals' lived experiences with and concerns about legalized psilocybe mushrooms in Colorado. Short excerpts from video interviews with research participants will be screened and discussed with themes of psychedelic harm reduction, microdosing ('to take the edge off'), cultivation of medicinal mushrooms, medicalization and corporatization. Also, the presentation is devoted to shroom-related storytelling and audience members sharing personal psychedelic encounters.
Dr. Marty Otañez is the Chair and an Associate Professor in the Anthropology Department, University of Colorado Denver. One of his research and creative work areas is psilocybin use among people of color in Colorado and building corporate accountability in the global psychedelic sector. In Fall 2023, Marty and his co-author Aaraon Diaz (Mexico City) will publish the first volume in a four-volume book series Art-Based Narratives as Resources to End Cannabis Stigmatization in North America. In 2023, the Source Research Foundation funded his project “Citizen Science and Community Education in Colorado’s Legal Psilocybin Sector: BIPOC Responses to Increase Policymakers’ Accountability,” expanding the scope of psychedelic research in Colorado.
